Patient Centered’ means our dedicated health care team: doctors, physician assistant, nurse care manager, medical assistants, medical secretaries, office manager and technical support assistant-work together to meet all your individual health care needs.

Medical Home’ means we want you to feel ‘at home’ Providing comprehensive care means we are here to meet your needs in wellness and illness providing quality evidenced based care. As your primary care providers, we are most familiar with your health needs and will lead your team but we cannot do it without your help.

What do we ask of you as part of our team?

  • You are the most important part of our health care team, we can make recommendations – the power to decide if you will follow them is yours.
  • Talk to your team about your health and needs and let us know when you do not understand something about your conditions or treatment.
  • Share with us any updates on medications (new or stopped meds) including herbal or dietary supplements and write down any questions you may have (bring all of your current medications to your appointment).
  • Let us know if you see any other health care providers outside our practice – specialist, behavioral health provider, emergency room, hospital, clinics – so we can ensure coordinated care.
  • Do your best to keep your scheduled appointment, if you cannot, call to reschedule or cancel as soon as possible.
  • Work with us to develop your personal health goals and action plans and what to do when you need care/advice during and after office hours.
  • Let us know if you are having concerns about your health or sticking to your personal health goals.
  • Offer feedback you might have to help us improve our services.

Through education, prevention and coordination of care we engage and support patients to improve health and promote wellness. Care will be delivered in a safe, pleasant and comfortable environment with courtesy and attention to individual needs.

Our History

University Internal Medicine was established in 2003 by a group of physicians who had worked and continue to work together collegially and with a common goal of first rate patient care. The practice is comprised of five Board Certified Internal Medicine Physicians, a Physician Assistant, a Registered Nurse Practitioner, a Nurse Care Manager, and a professional staff who work to provide patients with up-to-date and evidence-based care delivered in a timely and respectful manner. As an NCQA recognized Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH), we aim to partner with patients in providing adult well care, managing chronic, complex medical conditions, and treating illness to the best of our abilities, with competence, kindness, and professionalism.

Our Providers

David A. Marcoux, MD is a Board-Certified physician specializing in Internal Medicine and co-founder of University Internal Medicine, Inc. He graduated with a BA from Rhode Island College. He went on to attend The Medical College of Wisconsin, where he obtained his Medical Degree in 1988. He returned to Rhode Island where he completed his residency, also serving as Chief Medical Resident in Internal Medicine at the Miriam Hospital, Providence, Rhode Island in 1993. Dr. Marcoux was awarded the Charles C. J. Carpenter, MD Outstanding Physician of the Year in 2010. He is also a member of The Miriam Hospital’s board of trustees, chaired the hospital’s Medical Records Committee from 1999 to 2004 and since 2002 has chaired the hospital’s Ethics Committee. Dr. Marcoux is an associate member of the American College of Physicians and associate member of the Rhode Island Chapter of the American College of Physicians. He has been a General Internist and Primary Care Provider in the Providence area since that time. He is closely affiliated with The Miriam Hospital. Dr. Marcoux has maintained an active presence in the teaching program in the department of Internal Medicine at the Miriam. He is an assistant clinical instructor of medicine at the Warren Alpert Brown University School of Medicine. He was born and raised in Central Falls, Rhode Island. He is married and has three children. Dr. Marcoux enjoys golf, jazz music, reading, and spending time with his grandchildren. 

Felicia Meila, MD is a Board-Certified physician specializing in Internal Medicine and co-founder of University Internal Medicine, Inc. She graduated with a Medical Degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Carol Davila in Bucurestii, Romania in 1989 where she was first in her class and the recipient of the … award. She started her training in Internal Medicine in Romania and in 1993 moved to the US, starting an internship in New York Hospital of Queens, affiliated with Cornell Medical School. She then moved to Providence, RI in 1994 completing her residency program in Internal Medicine at the Miriam Hospital’s Brown University Residency Program. Dr. Meila started practicing Internal Medicine in Providence in 1996, and is continuing her commitment to high quality care together with the same partners she started with. For one year, she lived and worked in California. She volunteered in Nepal with Himalayan Health care as well. Dr. Meila was born in Romania. She enjoys traveling, volunteering, running, skiing, mountaineering, and reading together with her daughter Zoe.

Derrick M. Robinson, PA-C is a certified Physician Assistant. He graduated with a BA from Rhode Island College. He then went on to receive a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York in 2006. Upon graduation, Derrick began practicing with University Internal Medicine, Inc. He is preceptor for physician assistant students at both North Eastern University in Boston, MA and University of New England in Portland, ME. Derrick has been President of Rhode Island Academy of Physician Assistants for the past two years. Derrick was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. He is married and has two children. Derrick enjoys photography, reading and traveling.

Katherine (Katie) Maiorisi, PA-C is a physician assistant at University Internal Medicine. She attended Stony Brook University for her undergraduate degree in biology with a focus in neuroscience. She completed her physician assistant studies at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI and graduated in 2020. She grew up in Rhode Island and was a student at UIM before joining the team full time. She enjoys traveling, hiking, and skiing.

Cheryl Davis, RN, Nurse Care Manager – She is a Registered Nurse with over 25 years of experience in health care specialties including: medical surgical hospital care, charge nursing in behavioral health as well as skilled rehabilitation , school health ,and case management in home care . She is a graduate of Community College of RI and has an Associate Degree in Nursing .She holds a Care Management certificate and is Certified as a Diabetic Outpatient Educator. She cares about each patient and is here to assist them with managing their health to remain happy , healthy and safe in the community .Cheryl was born and raised in Rhode Island and now resides in Massachusetts with her husband and children. She enjoys music, crafts, cooking and spending time with her family.

Jordan Jutras, PA-C has been with University Internal Medicine since September of 2022. She graduated from Johnson & Wales University’s Physician Assistant Program in 2022, where she received her Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies and became a PA-C. Prior to this, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health/Health Sciences at UMass Lowell in 2019. During college, she worked as an EMT and also as a Patient Care Technician at Lowell General Hospital’s Oncology Care Unit. She enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with her family and her pets.

Anthony E. Ramicone, PA-C joined UIM in October of 2019. He graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2017 and spent two years working in the emergency department of Greenville Memorial hospital where he was a member of the emergency psychiatry team. When not taking care of patients, he enjoys live music, spending time with his wife and animals and traveling.

Cristina Santos PharmD, BC-ADM, DCOE, DVDOE graduated with her PharmD from the University of Rhode Island in 2006. She worked retail at CVS/Pharmacy for 10+ years and went back to become MTM (medication therapy management) certified. She is also Board Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management, BC-ADM. Since 2017 She has been employed by now Brown University Health and practicing at University Internal Medicine for the past 7 years. Tina was raised in Cumberland, RI and currently live in North Attleboro, MA with her 2 children. She was raised speaking Portuguese as her first language by parents who came here looking for the American Dream. On the weekends you will find Tina on the soccer field watching her children play what they love the most. She also enjoys gardening, being outdoors and hosting parties with friends

In the event of an URGENT medical problem, University Internal Medicine has an after-hours answering service that can assist. Call the office directly at (401) 725-4700, option 2 to be forwarded to the Brown Health Call Center.
